How to Search Cases by Name
The Kansas Public Access Portal is the main online tool for an Osborne County case lookup. It covers statewide District Court information rather than a county-hosted database, so accept the terms before the form will open.
- Select District in the Court control.
- Choose Party Name and enter the required search term.
- Open Additional Search Filters when case type, date of birth, or filing dates can narrow a common name.
- Complete the Human check and submit.
- Confirm Osborne County, court, case number, filed date, case type, party roles, and judge before opening the detail.
- Read the events index, then use the terminal or clerk when a public item is missing.
The portal exposes these fields, and its labels should be used as written.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court | Selector | Yes | Choose District for an Osborne County District Court case. |
| Search Type | Selector | Yes | Case Number, Party Name, Business Name, Party As Business Name, or Citation Number. |
| Search Term | Text | Yes | Enter the term that matches the chosen type. |
| Case Type | Filter | No | Criminal, Civil, Family, or Probate or Mental Health. |
| DOB | Date | No | Use only when proper and known. |
| File Date From/To | Date | No | These narrow filing dates, not hearing dates. |
| Human check | Validation | Yes | Required before submission. |
Osborne Portal Search Types
Five search types shape an Osborne County case lookup. Case Number works best when you know the identifier. Party Name fits a person. Business Name applies when the named party is the entity, while Party As Business Name is a separate role-based choice. Citation Number matches the number printed on the citation itself. Keep the two business labels straight. If one fails, try the other. A citation search can still return public case information even when Rule 22 blocks the filed citation document from internet display.
Search tip: The static screen has no county dropdown. Confirm Osborne County in the result rather than assuming every statewide match is local.
How to Search by Case Number
Case numbers created after the switch follow OB-YYYY-CC-000000. The OB segment marks Osborne County. Four digits give the year, a two-letter code names the case type, and the final six digits are the sequence. Keep the prefix and the hyphens intact. Osborne joined Kansas eCourt on July 11, 2022. Older cases may run YYYY-CC-000000 with no county prefix, so never invent one for a legacy number. When a search fails, compare the notice and ask the clerk which form the case uses.
- CR
- Criminal case category.
- CV
- Civil case category.
- FAM
- Family case category.
- PR
- Probate or Mental Health, a broad portal grouping.
Osborne Name Search Filters
A common name can pull cases from all over Kansas. Filter only with facts you actually know. Criminal, Civil, Family, and Probate or Mental Health narrow the category. DOB and filing-date controls trim similar matches, but they cannot prove identity. Compare county, case number, filed date, party role, case type, and judge. Loosen a filter that is too tight if nothing comes back. The filing-date fields do not search by hearing or disposition date. Turn to the events index to find a setting. Note: A shared name alone never identifies a party. Weigh several fields plus the named court before relying on a result.
What a Case Search Shows
A lookup returns index-level case information for Osborne County. Some results include an events index and public documents. Not every document is available remotely.
| Court and county | Confirms Osborne County District Court rather than another Kansas court. |
|---|---|
| Case number | The identifier, such as OB-2026-CV-000000. |
| Case type | The broad criminal, civil, family, probate or mental-health class. |
| Filed date | When the case began, not the next hearing date. |
| Parties and roles | Names and roles allowed for public display. |
| Judge and status | The assignment and current status shown. |
| Events and settings | The chronological activity, including public hearing information. |
| Documents | Public links when allowed; a missing image does not mean no filing exists. |
| Disposition | An outcome entry when recorded, read with the related order. |
Know what each product is. A result row, an events index, a filed paper, and a certified copy are different things, and only the clerk certifies the official record.
Osborne Portal Is Not eFiling
Authorized users file new cases and later documents through the Kansas Courts eFlex portal, which requires a user name and password. That is filing, not the public Osborne County case lookup.
The eFlex worklist is an authenticated workflow, not a public result set. Public readers should stay with the Public Access Portal. The Kansas Courts Central Payment Center is yet another separate route for participating citation searches and payments.
Its citation, license, and name fields support payment routing. They do not replace the District Court events index or deliver a complete Osborne County case file.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Osborne County offers no county-hosted docket search of its own. The statewide portal serves as the internet layer for District Court records, while the courthouse terminal and the clerk-held file form the local layer.
| Channel | Coverage | Best Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kansas Public Access Portal | State District and Appellate choices | Name, number, business, or citation search | Not official; some data and documents stay offline |
| Osborne courthouse terminal | Public records allowed at the courthouse | Public information absent online | Nonpublic records remain unavailable |
| District Court clerk | Osborne case record and requests | Date checks, documents, copies, certification | No public email or online certified-copy form found |
| Municipal clerk | City ordinance and traffic docket | City-only matters | Not the District Court record |
Find the terminal and the clerk at 423 W Main Street. Counter hours run 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reach the office by phone at 785-346-5911, fax at 785-346-5992, or mail at PO Box 160, Osborne, KS 67473.
Osborne No-Result Search Steps
A blank result does not prove the Osborne County case is missing. It usually means the search itself needs work. Check the spelling and the search type. Try the full case number. Widen a narrow category or filing-date range. Make sure you searched District rather than Appellate. Confirm the county on any match you get.
Still nothing? Go to the courthouse terminal under Rule 22, or contact Clerk Sabrina Spurgin. A written request can travel by mail, fax, pickup, or another option on the Kansas form. Name the court and the case number if known. Include the document or event, the approximate date, and how to reach you.
Older Osborne County files may sit in an index with no paper to download. No local archive fee, terminal printing policy, or retention schedule is published. Ask the clerk what survives on paper, microfilm, archived files, or electronic media.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Supreme Court Rule 22 draws three layers. There is public internet access, public courthouse-terminal access, and nonpublic records. A sensitive item can be public at the terminal yet sealed online. A truly nonpublic case is closed through both public layers.
Some case types never reach the portal. Adoption, care and treatment, many juvenile and child-in-need-of-care matters, expunged cases, grand-jury proceedings, and several protection-order groups are among them. Documents kept off the internet include citations and dissolution papers. They also include custody and support records, juvenile documents, guardianship papers, and other sensitive records the rule names. A sparse result is not a dismissal or a lost file.
The official Rule 22 sets the boundary. A party or attorney may hold a separate authorized route. Public docket search access does not grant one.
Osborne Federal Cases Search Elsewhere
Federal cases tied to Osborne County never show up in the Kansas state portal. The county sits in the Salina Division of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. For federal case information and documents, search PACER.
The PACER screen shows the nationwide federal route. That system stands apart from the state District Court, municipal court, and the Kansas public portal. The District of Kansas also runs CM/ECF, which handles federal docket and filing work.
This interface belongs to the federal court alone. Don't use it for an Osborne County District Court or municipal case lookup.
